DELPHOS — The Revitalize Downtown Delphos Development Association met on Jan. 26 with 25 people in attendance, including representatives from both the Allen and Van Wert County commissioners’ offices, the Convention and Visitor Bureaus of each county, the Delphos mayor’s office and city council, a representative from “Main Street” Lima and Van Wert and the CIC of Delphos.

Excellent, positive input around six previously defined points of discussion ensued for two hours.

Topics on the agenda included:

— The perception that Delphos is a forgotten part of both Allen and Van Wert counties when it comes to funding and public relations;

— A need for action for the downtown by elected officials and administrators;

— Prior obstacles for new or proposed construction or renovation projects;

— What may be potential sources of new or existing funding streams for development and renovations;

— Insights on what other cities like Van Wert and Lima are doing in regard to their “main street manager program”; and

— A general conversation of “out of the box” resolutions to the needs of downtown.

Construction information and debunking of some perceptions was extremely helpful for all. It was a full two hours of positive conversation with a commitment from all to keep the project moving forward.

The next meeting will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday at the Jones Building, second floor. The meeting will focus on developing a viable “action-oriented” agenda to keep the association moving forward.

All interested Delphos residents are encouraged to attend the next meeting for their input on downtown issues.
