VAN WERT — The following individuals appeared before judge Martin Burchfield Wednesday in Van Wert County Common Pleas Court:

Changes of pleas

Ronald E. Smith, 26, Van Wert, changed his plea to guilty to possession of chemicals for the illegal assembly of drugs, a felony 2. A second charge of illegal manufacturing of drugs, a felony 1, was dismissed for his plea. The court ordered a pre-sentence investigation and set sentencing for March 29. Bond continued.

Abby Thatcher, 25, Van Wert, changed her plea to guilty to complicity in possession of chemicals for illegal assembly of drugs, a felony 2; and endangering children, a felony 3. Another charge for complicity in illegal manufacturing of drugs, a felony 1, was dismissed for her plea. The court ordered a pre-sentence investigation and set sentencing for March 29. Her bond was amended to a surety bond.

Tiffany Shuler, 30, Van Wert, changed her plea to guilty to two counts of trafficking in cocaine, each a felony 5. Two other similar charges were dismissed for her plea. The court ordered a pre-sentence investigation and set sentencing for March 29.

Jody Matthews, 53, Payne, changed his plea to guilty to theft, a misdemeanor 1 (reduced from theft, felony 5). Sentencing set for March 15.

Chad Kouts, 27, Van Wert, changed his plea to guilty to two counts of theft, each a felony 5, (amended from two counts of grand theft, each a felony 3). The court ordered a pre-sentence investigation and set sentencing for March 15.

Time waiver

Kyle Goodwin, 28, Van Wert, signed a time waiver in open court to allow more time for preparation of his case. Pretrial set for Feb. 22.
