ELIDA — Gertrude J. Geckle, 101, of Elida passed away peacefully on Monday at Lost Creek Nursing Home.

She was born Sept. 1, 1916, in Putnam County to Frank and Clara (Etgen) Utrup. She married Raymond Geckle, who preceded her in death on May 20, 1989.

Those left to cherish her memory include her two sons, Jim (Pam) Geckle of Columbus Grove and Donald Selhorst of Rushsylvania; her daughter, Doris Easterday of Lakeview; stepchildren, Judi (Joe) Schroeder and Barb (John) Griffith of Columbus Grove and Diane Hart of Pandora; a sister, Babe Miller of Ottoville; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Leona and Catherine; brothers, Arnold, Laurence, Rudy, Norman and infant brother Bernard; and a stepson-in-law, Joe Hart.

Gertrude enjoyed being a homemaker. She was hardworking, loved to garden and take care of her home. She loved spending time with her family, especially the times she “partied” with her sisters.

Funeral services will begin at 2 p.m. today at Harter and Schier Funeral Home, the Rev. Rich Rakay officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery in Elida.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home.
