MIDDLE POINT – Lincolnview got its 20th win Monday by blanking Kalida 5-0 in a regular season game between two of the area’s top teams.

It wasn’t all that easy.

The Wildcats (15-7) stranded a whopping 12 runners, at least one in each inning, as good defense and timely pitching paid dividends for the Lancers (20-4).

Lancer senior Ethan Parsons, playing his last game on the home field, did a masterful job of making good pitches when he needed them. He left with one out in the top of the seventh inning after throwing his 103rd pitch. Chayten Overholt, also a senior, came in from shortstop to finish it up.

After Kalida mounted a serious threat in the top of the first, Overholt gave the game its most exciting moment. He led off the bottom of the first by blasting one down the leftfield line. Kalida’s Gabe Hovest made a diving attempt but couldn’t reach the ball, allowing the speedy Overholt to zip around the bases and barely beat the relay with a head-first slide into home. That one run would prove to be enough.

Lincolnview added two unearned runs in the fifth. After two were out, rightfielder Braxton Fox reached on an error, Chayten Overholt ripped a single off the leg of relief pitcher Kevin Hamburg, and centerfielder Brayden Evans walked to load the bases. Third baseman Jaden Youtsey poked a single up the middle, scoring pinch runner Sam Myers and Chayten Overholt.

The Lancers added two more insurance runs in the sixth. First baseman Ethan Kemler and catcher Collin Overholt started the inning with singles to put runners at first and second. They moved up on a wild pitch. DH Creed Jessee bounced out to short for the first out, with the runners unable to advance. Leftfielder Thad Walker then executed a perfect suicide squeeze bunt to plate Kemler, and Collin Overholt also came in when the throw to home went awry.

Chayten Overholt led the Lancer offense, going 3 for 4, including the homer, scoring twice, and driving in one. Kalida had multiple-hit games from first baseman Owen Recker (3 for 4) and catcher Trevor Lambert (2 for 4).

Weather permitting, Lincolnview will be back in action at Coldwater Tuesday evening against the Cavaliers, then will return to Coldwater on Wednesday for a Division IV district semifinal against Crestview.
