ELIDA — Jefferson and Elida got to the top of the third inning of their non-league baseball game Wednesday at Ed Sandy Memorial Field in Elida.

With a scoreless draw entering the top of the inning — a 1-1 count versus Jefferson seventh hitter Darius Shurelds by Elida starter Josh Howard — Mother Nature decided to intervene.

First, thunder was heard, causing the umpires to call a halt to the proceedings and order players off the field.

Shortly after, the downpours came.

After about 20 minutes, the game was postponed to another day.

Jefferson (8-8 entering the contest) had one hit in the second inning — a 1-out single to left center by senior Tyler Shrider. He was forced on a double-play grounder by Hunter Haehn.

Elida (5-10 coming in) had one hit in the home first — a 1-out slap to center by Scott McDonnell against Jefferson starter Caleb Lucas.

Jefferson is slated to visit Spencerville Thursday for an NWC contest.
