George Sterling, 77, of Delphos passed away at 3:45 p.m. Wednesday at St. Rita’s Medical Center.
He was born on June 10, 1935, to Charles and Jessie (Follas) Sterling, who preceded him in death.
He was united in marriage to Fairy Etta Cross, who preceded him in death on Jan. 16, 2013.
Survivors include two sons, Max Douglas Sterling of Dayton and Donald Anthony Sterling of St. Mary’s; a sister, Mary (Ed) Rigdon of Venedocia; two brothers, Harold “Nick” (Phyllis) Sterling and Lonnie (Jeannette) Sterling of Delphos; a brother-in-law, Roger (Shirley) Diltz, three sisters-in-law, Dorothy Kohler, Margaret Sterling of Delphos and Imalee “Lee” Sterling of California; a step-son, Richard (Becky) Auer of Delphos, five daughters-in-law, Carol (Jerry) Hirn of Delphos, Dianna (Norman) Mullenhour of Kentucky, Shirley (Everett) Hall of Coldwater and Patty (Harley) Duncan and Mitzi (Dave) Huffine of Van Wert; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by five brothers, Vernon, Frank, Lester, Lewis and Ray Sterling; a step-son, Gary Auer; and step-daughter, Sue Ann Kohorst.
Mr. Sterling had worked in the shipping department at Harter’s Corporation. He was an Air Force veteran and was enlisted from 1955 to 1965. He was a member of the Delphos Wesleyan Church and enjoyed wood carving and working in his flower garden.
Funeral services will be at noon on Saturday at Harter and Schier Funeral Home, Pastor Wayne Prater officiating. There will be Military Grave Rites given by the Delphos Veterans Council. Burial will be at a later date.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday at Harter and Schier Funeral Home.
