Dear Northeastern Van Wert County,

Building on the success of our Blue Creek Wind Farm, the largest single private investment in Ohio in 2011, we are now in the early stages of developing the Dog Creek Wind Farm to the east of Blue Creek.

Blue Creek is a powerful economic engine: the project employed more than 30 different local companies during construction, spending $25 million locally – mainly on concrete, gravel, and upgrades and repairs to local roads. Our annual lease payments to area landowners total approximately $2 million per year and we compensated landowners for ag land impact during construction. We made a donation to Vantage Career Center to train future wind energy technicians, and created the Iberdrola Renewables Scholarship, administered by the Van Wert County Foundation. Residents of the Blue Creek and Dog Creek areas are eligible. In early 2014, Blue Creek will begin making payments to local taxing bodies that will make us the largest single taxpayer in Van Wert County, equal to the current top 11 taxpayers combined. Finally, Blue Creek is supplying clean, affordable, stable-priced wind energy to our customers across Ohio.

With your help, Dog Creek would potentially double all of these benefits in this region. Advancing turbine technology indicates that each turbine could produce more electricity – potentially lowering the cost of electricity and increasing the local landowner payments.

We developed Blue Creek with a trusting partnership with the local community and landowners. That blue print of trust and transparency will guide us as we work together to develop Dog Creek.
