DELPHOS — Newly-hired Principal Doug Westrick will hit the ground running next Monday when he officially takes the helm at Jefferson Middle School.

“I am ready to get in there and start building connections and relationships,” Westrick said Tuesday. “I feel very fortunate to have landed in Delphos and I’m excited to get started.”

The Delphos City Schools Board of Education announced Westrick’s hiring at Monday’s school board meeting. He replaces long-time principal Terry Moreo, who announced his retirement in June.

Although this is his first full principalship, Westrick has dealt with students on an administrative level at Bryan City Schools as assistant middle school principal and as dean of students at Swanton Local Schools.

“I firmly believe all kids can succeed at a high level and it’s our job to help them achieve that,” Westrick said. “That’s my philosophy.”

Westrick knows his first step is to get acquainted with everyone.

“I know I’ll spend a lot of time getting to know and earning the trust of my co-workers and getting to know the students, parents and community,” he added.

Westrick and his wife, Melanie, live in Ottawa and have two sons: Alex, 18, who is getting ready to start college; and Jaren, 7, who will be in the second grade in the fall.
