CONVOY — Crestview golf coach Jeremy Best has gone from the inexperienced to the experienced in a year.

In 2012, Best only had one veteran back from the year before.

This season, he has every one of his top five back from 2012, which leaves the coach optimistic for 2013.

“We look to be much improved over last year. We are still very young but return some on-course experience,” he noted.

The most experienced player — and expected number one — is third-year senior Jake Mengerink.

The other experienced performers include junior Jon Germann, sophomore Connor Lautzenheiser, sophomore Cyler Miller and classmate Ronnie Schumm.

“This should be a fun season; the Northwest Conference is wide open and there are several teams that will be competing for the league title,” Best added. “We would like to be in the middle of the pack this year in the conference but that will take consistent play from our returnees.”

It will also take steady improvement from three newcomers Best expects to fill roles in 2013: Cain Lautzenheiser (senior), Lucas Schumm (freshman) and classmate Derek Biro.

The remainder of the roster has junior Marcus Howell, freshman Kaleb Myers and classmate Ethan Waddles.

The Knights continue on their early-season links schedule in hosting an NWC quad match this morning.
