VAN WERT — The Van Wert County Fair is over but Vantage Early Childhood Education students have some extra special memories of it this year.

On Senior Citizen Day and Veteran’s Day, about 25 Early Childhood Education students assisted residents of Vancrest in maneuvering through all the booths in the Commercial Building at the fair and helped them get their lunch. The residents shared stories with the students about how the fair was years ago.

Early Childhood Education instructor Marcia Osenga was very happy with the field trip.

“This is the kickoff event for our intergenerational project with Vancrest and it went really well, despite the heat,” she said.

“We absolutely love working with the Vancrest residents in our intergenerational project. We’ve been working with them for at least 15 years. It is one of my favorite activities,” preschool teacher Donna Myers said.

The ECE students will continue their relationship with the seniors at Vancrest through the intergenerational project. The project will include monthly visits to Vancrest with the preschoolers and their teachers reading stories, performing finger plays and playing games.
