MT. CORY — Jefferson’s girls soccer team put up three goals in the first half Monday afternoon at Cory-Rawson High School en route to a 4-1 non-conference victory over the Lady Hornets at Mt. Cory.
The Lady Wildcats (5-6-2) got tallies in the first half from freshman Addison Schimmoeller (assist to junior Bailey Miller) at the 18:14 mark past Lady Hornet (5-5-3) senior keeper Abby Schultz (12 saves vs. 21 shots); at 15-57, when sophomore Logan Hamilton (off a feed from freshman Arianna Knebel) delivered a 16-yarder; and at 6:50, when junior Kylee Haehn and Knebel hooked up for a top-of-the-box shot.
The hosts — with five players out with injuries, leaving only one sub — got within 3-1 in the second half as freshman Brooklyn Shoemaker beat Jefferson junior netminder Kayleigh O’Connor (5 saves vs. 10 shots) at 6:18.
However, the Red and White (with two injuries out of 16 players) tacked on the final goal at 1:41 when Hamilton fed Haehn for a 17-yarder.
The Wildcats visit Lima Senior at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.
Cory-Rawson hosts Bluffton Wednesday.
