DEFIANCE — The weather was rainy and chilly in the Elida/Defiance boys soccer matchup Monday night in Division II sectional action at the Defiance High School soccer pitch.

The ’Dawgs didn’t seem to mind as they secured the upper-bracket sectional title with a 5-0 triumph over host Defiance.

Elida (11-4-2) scored four times in the first half: at 32:03 on a 14-yarder Adam Ordel; at 15:38, on a 10-yarder by Shawn Ezell; at 5:37, on a tally by Ordel; and at 1:44 when Jerod Houston beat Defiance (2-16) keeper Juan Montez (11 saves against 19 shots) from 18 yards.

They added a fifth goal at 17:38 of the second half on a penalty kick, with A.J. Siefker doing the honors.

Elida will tangle with Shawnee at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Elida.

The nightcap will feature Bryan — a 6-0 victor over Ottawa-Glandorf in the late match at Defiance Monday night — versus St. Marys Memorial.
