The following individuals appeared Wednesday before Judge Charles Steele in Van Wert County Common Pleas Court: 
Gary E. Coates, 28, Ohio City, changed his plea to guilty to three counts of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor, all three counts are felonies of the third degree.  
The indictment for the unlawful sexual conduct counts, “Gary Edward Coats, who is 18 years of age or older did knowingly engage in sexual conduct with another who is not the spouse of the offender when the offender knows the other person is 13 years of age or older but less than 16 years of age or the offender is reckless in that regard, and where the offender is ten or more years older than the other person”.   
Coats had originally been indicted for three counts of sexual battery, felonies of the second degree; and the three counts of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor, all third-degree felonies.  
The incidents that Coats was charged with all took place in a period from Dec. 1, 2009, through June 2010.
Assistant Van Wert County Prosecuting Attorney Eva Yarger told Judge Steele that The State of Ohio would be recommending at sentencing that Coats spend three years in prison on each of the counts to run consecutive to one another for a total of nine years in prison.  
Judge Steele ordered a pre-sentence investigation and scheduled sentencing for 9 a.m. Sept. 27. Coats is being held in jail on a $100,000 cash bond.
Kelcey L. Frye, 19, Rockford, entered a plea of not guilty to a charge of robbery, a felony of the second degree. 
A Van Wert County Sheriff’s Department investigation alleges Frye, while driving his van, was approached by a Chad Stripe to purchase some concert tickets. Stripe allegedly had a back pack with the tickets and money at which time, Frye allegedly grabbed for the back pack and started to drive off. Stripe attempted to hold onto the back pack and was dragged by Frye.  
Judge Steele ordered that Frye be held on a $20,000 cash bond along with a $5,000 unsecured personal surety bond. 
Frye presently was on probation with the court for another theft related violation which he had been sentenced for in May of this year. 
A pretrial hearing was scheduled for 8 a.m. Aug. 18. 
Drake D. Hitchcock, Van Wert, Ohio found to be in violation of the conditions of his Treatment in Lieu of Conviction program. 
Hitchcock had originally entered a guilty plea in April of this year to possession of heroin and aggravated possession of drugs, both felonies of the fifth degree. 
Judge Steele ordered a pre-sentence investigation and scheduled sentencing for September 29th, 2010 at 9:00 a.m.
Shane Williams, Van Wert, was placed on one year of community control and ordered to spend 30 days in the Van Wert County Jail immediately and then have an additional 30 days to be served at a time to be determined by his supervision officer.  
Williams was ordered to undergo an anger assessment and complete any program recommended. He is to have no contact with the victim and not be within 200 feet of the victim at any time. Williams was ordered to pay $250 as partial reimbursement for his court appointed attorney, $25 affidavit of indgency fee and court costs. 
Judge Steele gave Williams a 180-day jail sentence and a $1,000 fine but deferred the imposition of the sentence pending the successful completion of the community control program.

Nine individuals indicted by the recent session of the Van Wert County Grand Jury were arraigned Wednesday morning before Judge Charles D. Steele
Jeffrey T. Stocklin, 29, Delphos, charge of receiving stolen property, a felony of the fifth degree, entered a not guilty plea, ordered released on a $5,000 unsecured personal surety bond with being placed on electronic monitored house arrest. 
A pretrial hearing is scheduled for 8 a.m. Aug. 18. 
Brittney R. Cousino, 22, Mendon, charge of theft, a felony of the fifth degree, entered a not guilty plea, released on a $5,000 unsecured personal surety bond. 
A pretrial hearing has been scheduled for 8 a.m. Aug. 18. 
Joshua D. Sargeant, 28, Van Wert, charged with possession of drugs, a felony of the fifth degree, entered a not guilty plea and was released on a $5,000 unsecured personal surety bond. 
A pretrial hearing is scheduled for 8 a.m. Aug. 18. 
Anthony Snyder, 20, Rockford, charged with theft, a felony of the fifth degree, entered a not guilty plea and was released on a $5,000 unsecured personal surety bond.
A pretrial hearing is scheduled for 8 a.m. Aug. 18.
Zachary S. Craig, 31, Van Wert, charged with domestic violence, a felony of the third degree, entered a not guilty plea, he was ordered held on a $50,000 cash bond with a 10 percent privilege along with a $5,000 unsecured personal surety bond. 
A pretrial hearing is scheduled for 8 a.m. Aug. 18. 
Zachariah B. Williams, 25, Van Wert, charged with having weapons while under a disability, a felony of the third degree, entered a not guilty plea and was released on a $5,000 unsecured personal surety bond. 
A pretrial is scheduled for 8 a.m. Aug. 18. 
David A. Darst, 34, Van Wert, charged with endangering children, a felony of the second degree, entered a not guilty plea and was released on a $5,000 unsecured  personal surety bond with the conditions that there be no contact with the victim. 
A pretrial hearing is scheduled for 8 a.m. Aug. 18. 
Dan J. Swoveland, 56, Ohio City, charged with domestic violence, a felony of the fourth degree, entered a not guilty plea and was released on a $5,000 unsecured personal surety bond with no contact with the victim. 
A pretrial hearing is scheduled for 8 a.m. Aug. 18.
