VAN WERT — Jefferson’s boys cagers used a strong second period — 19-8 — and went on to a 53-32 non-league win over Van Wert Saturday night at The Cougars’ Den.

The Wildcats (13-7) were paced by sophomore Trey Smith (25 points, 8 boards) and the double-double of senior Ross Thompson (14 markers, 14 boards, 4 assists), along with nine by Tyler Rice.

Matt Bidlack was high scorer for the Cougars with 10.

In junior varsity action, Jefferson improves to 12-8 with a 61-20 rout.

Jefferson hosts Bluffton Friday, while Van Wert hosts St. Marys Memorial.
