Archers pull away from Lady Green

OTTOVILLE — Antwerp took the lead from the get-go and pulled away to a 12-5 non-league softball triumph over Ottoville Tuesday at Ottoville.

The Archers out-hit the Lady Green 8-6 — six of them for extra bases — and took advantage of six Lady Green errors behind Courtney Von Sossan (5 strikeouts, 1 walk).

Alena Horstman had two round-trippers for the home team, — including a grand slam — going 3-for-4 and knocking in five.

Sweet and Miller each had a triple and double for the visitors.

The Lady Green visit Pandora-Gilboa Thursday.

Warnecke stymies Bulldogs in WBL baseball

ELIDA — Matt Warnecke twirled a 3-hit shutout to pace Ottawa-Glandorf to a 4-0 Western Buckeye League baseball triumph over host Elida Tuesday afternoon at Ed Sandy Memorial Field.

Warnecke went the distance, striking out five and not walking a batter.

The lone hits by the Bulldogs came from Max Stambaugh, Jared Blyemyer and Justin Murphy.

Adam Purdy took the loss for the hosts, throwing four frames (6 hits, 2 earned runs, 6 BBs, 7 Ks). Austin Morrison mopped up, ceding three hits and two runs (1 earned), while fanning one.

Tyler Zender (2 runs batted in), Tanner Schimmoeller and Chandler Kersh (run scored) went 2-for-4 for the Titans.

Elida hosts Lima Senior Thursday.

Bearcats bash Pioneers

LIMA — The Spencerville baseball crew demolished Lima Temple Christian 18-4 in six innings Tuesday in Lima.

The Bearcats (7-8) took full advantage of their 11 hits.

Aaron Crider got the pitching victory, while Thad Ringwald led the way at the plate with a 3-for-3, 6-RBI night.

Luke Carpenter and Hunter French each had six singles and Wyatt Krouskop had a double.

Bowman went 2-for-4 for the hosts (0-14).

The next game is tonight at Lincolnview (makeup game).

LadyCats edge Panthers

KALIDA — The Kalida LadyCats scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to knock off McComb 10-9 in non-conference softball action Tuesday at home.

The LadyCats also out-hit the Panthers 10-9.

The Lady Panthers took a 9-8 lead in the top of the frame.

Freshman Ana Knueve got the pitching win.

Kalida welcomes in Columbus Grove tonight.

Goodwin shuts down Kalida baseballers

KALIDA — Behind the 5-hit complete-game shutout of Allen East ace Goodwin, the Mustangs handed host Kalida a 7-0 non-league baseball loss Tuesday at historic Holy Name Ballpark.

Austin Swift had a pair of hits for the host Wildcats, who also committed four errors behind pitchers such as Colton Farrell, Noah Lambert and Trent Gerding.

Goodwin fanned eight.

Stippich had three knocks for the Mustangs and Wilson two.

Kalida entertains Hardin Northern Thursay.

Lady Bulldogs bombard Wildcats

COLUMBUS GROVE — The Columbus Grove softball team pounded out 23 hits to outscore Putnam County League foe Miller City 21-10 in five innings Tuesday at home.

The game was postponed from April 15.

Hope Schroeder (10-3) went the distance for the Lady Bulldogs (10-7, 4-0 PCL), giving up all 10 runs (1 earned), ceding seven hits and six walks. She fanned three.

Katie Roose led the plate barrage with a 4-for-4 day, with Schroeder 3-for-3, Deanna Kleman 4-for-5 and Monica Delgado 3-for-4.

They put up an 11-run outburst in the bottom of the third.

Ricker took the loss in 2 2/3 innings, giving up 12 hits and 13 runs (2 earned), walking one.

Liz Schimmoeller went 2-for-3 and Vennekotter 2-for-4.

Grove visits Kalida tonight.
