The 2013 Delphos City “Hall of Honor” inductees were named Saturday during the school’s 138th Alumni Dinner at the Delphos Eagles Lodge. Rick Miller (class of 1970) and Jim Stockwell are the newest members of the elite club. The 2013 Jefferson Alumni Scholarship winners were also announced. They are Rachel Miller and Zachary Bland.
25 Years Ago – 1989
Delphos Rulers of Tomorrow 4-H Club planted and will care for flowers in the fountain area of Waterworks Park. Participating in the project were Becky Baughn, Laura Fischer, Lisa Fischer, Brianne Hennel, Samantha Storer, Alena Wannemacher and Alvera Wannemacher, Jennifer Odenweller, Nathan Wannemacher, junior leader, and Patty Wannemacher, advisor.
Students of Jeanne’s Dance Studio will present the 13th annual recital June 11 at the Lima Civic Center. Participating in the recital will be Rachel Birkmeier, Sarah Swick, Sarah Ardner, Nikki Shumaker, Gina Ulm, Sydney Gressel, Rachel Bailey, Andrea Hammons, Julia Geary, Mackenzie Osting, Heidi Klausing, Jennifer Johnson, Amy Norris, Jolene Hyman, Tammy Johnson, Stephanie Teman, Kim Brunk, Gina Taylor and Danielle Buettner.
Dennis Moore of Delphos received the state commander’s award as outstanding local veterans employment representative of the year at the sixth annual convention of Disabled American Veterans held recently in Columbus. The award was presented by William J. Bolls, director of veterans employment and training services with the Ohio Bureau of Employment Services.
50 Years Ago – 1964
Hospitality Days in Delphos, June 12-13, will feature the traditional Pet Parade at 1:30 p.m. Saturday. Another highlight of the promotion will be the treasure chest which will be located in the old Kroger Store building, now used as a display room by Westrich’s Store. Also scheduled is a record hop at 8:30 p.m. Saturday on the Peoples National Bank parking lot.
Michael W. Koester and Robert Kurucz, science student and teacher at Delphos St. John’s High School will attend the Science Youth Congress in Columbus Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Their attendance at the Congress is being sponsored by the Delphos Rotary Club. Kurucz teaches biology, earth science and general science at St. John’s. Michael will be a senior in the high school starting next September.
Delphos Aerie No. 471, Fraternal Order of Eagles and Auxiliary held joint installation ceremonies Sunday afternoon in the Eagles club rooms. Following the ceremonies, a lunch was served and there was dancing to the music of Bill Simindinger’s orchestra. Albert Clinger was installed as president of the Aerie and Ethel Wrocklage as president of the auxiliary.
75 Years Ago – 1939
The members of the Delphos Methodist Epworth League were entertained Friday night by the Morris Chapel Epworth League at the Morris Chapel Church. Those present from Delphos were Marie Truesdale, Lois Redd, Doris Clawson, Paul Rozelle, Cleo Fuller, Jack Parrott, Louis Rozelle, Robert Ervin, Bill Parrott, Dale Van Meter, Mrs. Ray Danner and Rev. and Mrs. Swearingen.
Sally Jauman, East Third Street, entertained the members of the Entre Nous Club and one guest, Mrs. Robert Best, at her home Friday evening. Pinochle was played and at the conclusion of the games, Helen Moenter was high and Mary Louise Kurber, second. Pauline Kaskel received the traveling award and Mrs. Best, a guest award.
Two Delphos young men, John Hotz, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Hotz, and Richard Wulfhorst, will receive degrees from Ohio State University Monday. Wulfhorst, a graduate of St. John’s High School, will receive a degree of Bachelor in Physical Education. Hotz also graduated from St. John’s High School. He will receive a degree of Bachelor in Chemical Engineering.
