Helen Marie Chandler, 95, of Fort Jennings died at 4:13 a.m. Wednesday at St. Rita’s Medical Center.
She was born Oct. 8, 1916, in Fort Jennings to George and Verena (Stegeman) Wallenhorst, who preceded her in death.
On May 14, 1947, she married Earl L. Chandler, who died Nov. 25, 1991.
Survivors include a daughter, Nancy (Edward) Andrews of Fort Jennings; three grandchildren, Robert (Alesha) Andrews, Tara (Eric) Mackert, and Tammi (Chad) Van Bibber; three great-grandchildren, Hayden Andrews, Harper Andrews, and Kaylyn Mackert; and a sister-in-law, Sally Wallenhorst of Middle Point.
Also preceding her in death were four sisters, Sr. Euphrasia Wallenhorst, Esther (Greg) Eggeman, Thelma (Art) Beckman and Alice (Carl) Snyder; and three brothers: Gilbert Wallenhorst, Wilbur (Lucille) Wallenhorst and Alfred (Anne) Wallenhorst.
Mrs. Chandler was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Fort Jennings, and the Fort Jennings Ladies American Legion Auxiliary. She loved sewing, gardening and babysitting her grandchildren when they were little. She and her husband were in Fort Jennings’s first graduating class in 1935.
Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Rev. Mel Verhoff officiating. Burial will be at a later date in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Friday at Love-Heitmeyer Funeral Home, Jackson Township (corner of St. Rts. 634 & 224), and one hour prior to the Mass at the church on Saturday. There will be a scripture service at 1:45 p.m. and a Ladies Auxiliary Service at 7 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
