Donald V. Grothouse, 84, of Delphos, died at 12:51 a.m. Tuesday at St. Rita’s Medical Center.
He was born April 8, 1928 to Sylvester and Luella (Kehres) Grothouse.
On Aug. 20, 1955, he married Frances Schweller, who survives in Delphos.
Other survivors include sons Thomas Grothouse of Fremont and John (Julia) Grothouse of Warsaw, Ind.; daughter Mary (Bill) Rickrich of Newark; grandchildren Karen Rickrich, Laura Rickrich, Susan, James, Matthew, Nicholas and Mark Grothouse and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son, Paul John Grothouse; sisters Mildred Noonan, Doris Klausing and Alene Grothouse; grandparents August and Catherine (Ricker) Grothouse and Henry and Anna (Shirack) Kehres.
Mr. Grothouse served with the United States Army’s Corps of Engineers in Korea at Thule Air Force Base in Northern Greenland for two years. He retired from the Fruehauf Corporation after 36 years of employment as a manager in production control. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, St. Vincent De Paul Society, where he was president for six years, Delphos Country Club, Lima Elks, was a time keeper at St. John’s basketball games for 40 years and was an avid golfer with two hole-in-one games.
Mass of Christian Burial begins at 11 a.m. Friday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, the Rev. Mel Verhoff officiating. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery.
Friends may call from 1-4 and 6-8 Thursday at Harter and Schier Funeral Home, where the parish wake service begins at 7:30 p.m. Military rites by the Delphos Veterans Council.
Memorials are to St. John’s Parish Foundation, Eternal Word Television Network or the St. Vincent De Paul Society.
