PUTNAM COUNTY — Putnam County will have a new sheriff next year as current Sheriff, Jim Beutler was defeated by Mike Chandler.
Chandler defeated Beutler in a close race by gaining 56.46 percent of the votes in the county. With Chandler taking 9,957 votes he is excited to begin his career as the county’s sheriff however wants to let his win “sink in before making any promises of change for the county.

“I don’t have any plans as of right now, I need to get into office and see if any changes need to be made and will make them at that time,” he said.

Although Chandler is glad he won, he feels it is unfortunate that someone had to lose.

Beutler has been sheriff of Putnam County for 12 years as he took office in 2000. Chandler has served as a sheriff’s deputy for the last 25 years but had to leave his post to run for the office of sheriff.

While a deputy, he served numerous positions for the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department and ran on the platform to improve working relations with all other law enforcement agencies, county offices and fire and emergency services throughout the county. He also would like to provide a better quality of service to the public.

Chandler resides in Fort Jennings with his wife and two children.
