Please don't dump cats or kittens at fairgrounds PDF Print

To the editor,

This letter is to urge people to please stop dumping cats and kittens at the fairgrounds in Van Wert, Ohio. It is not a safe haven.

About four years ago while at the fairgrounds, my wife and I observed many cats and kittens around several buildings. That day, we saw around 40. We decided to feed and water them at the locations where they were. This last winter we only missed one day because drives were not plowed. Recently, I was ordered to feed cats at only one location — by the Saddle Horse Barn. Nowhere else. Aug. 22, there were only five cats at that location to feed. I’m sure many more were around the grounds.

To the editor,

I was with great surprise and sadness that I received a letter from our pastor, Angela Khabeb. They are leaving Sunday. What was more of a shock was the reason: There are bad circumstances in Delphos concerning the safety of this family.I’m told they looked for help with the situation but didn’t find it.

To the editor,

Everyone is upset about the condition of water supplies in several of our nearby lakes. The Herald printed an article in Monday’s paper that states that farmers’ runoff and sludge plants are being blamed for the problem. No where did I see that everyone who fertilizes their yards was being blamed.

Dear Editor,

Summer is a magical time for many of us, especially for students who have a brief respite from the responsibilities of school. Summer is when we are free to enjoy the outdoors, play some ball with our friends or hang out and relax at the pool. We, from Beyond Expectations, would like to thank the many people who help provide these same opportunities for the individuals in our community with physical, mental and medical challenges.

As we watch these events unfold each year and see these kids grow, it becomes evident that our commonality is more important than our differences.

To the editor,

At this time, Shelter Pets of Van Wert would like to let everyone know that we have and had no idea on the conditions of the inside of the shelter. Neither Carole or myself (Tammy) were ever inside the actual shelter part of the building. For our adoption events, dogs were placed in the outside kennels for us to come, pick up and take to the events, or the dog warden would transport some of them to us on occasion.
