VAN WERT — A 20-year-old Van Wert man admitted to his part in trying to sneak drugs into jail. Tyler Kast pleaded guilty on Wednesday to a reduced charge of attempted complicity to the illegal conveyance of drugs of abuse onto the grounds of a specified government facility, a felony of the fourth degree.

Kast was arrested on March 29 for his actions. Also charged in the incident is 21-year-old Ruth Ann Napier Caldwell, who pleaded not guilty to a similar charge on April 10.
At his sentencing on May 29, Kast faces up to 18 months in prison.

Also appearing in Van Wert County Court of Common Pleas on Wednesday was Nathan A. Frost who pleaded guilty to fifth-degree felony non-support of dependents.

Frost was accepted into the Van Wert County Prosecutor’s Diversions Program.
Nathan Wappelhorst was sentenced to six months in jail as part of three years of community control. Wappelhorst had already pleaded guilty to a fifth-degree felony drug possession charge.

At 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Delphos Police went to a residence in the 700 block of North Franklin Street in reference to serving an active arrest warrant on a subject in that area.
Upon officers’ arrival, they made contact with Randall Murray, 55 of Delphos, at which time Murray was taken into custody on the warrant issued out of Van Wert Municipal Court for violating his terms of bail on a pending domestic violence case in that court.

At 4:24 p.m. on Tuesday, Delphos Police were called to the 800 block of West Skinner Street in reference to an active domestic violence at a residence in that area.
Upon officers’ arrival, they were advised by dispatchers that the victim was being assaulted in the rear bedroom of the residence at that time. Officers made entry into the residence and located the victim and Brandon Martin, 30, of Delphos, at which time the subjects were separated.
The victim stated that she did not want charges pursued or to have Martin arrested for the domestic violence. Officers stated that upon seeing the domestic situation, they had enough probable cause to arrest Martin on charges of domestic violence.
Martin was transported to the Van Wert County Jail and will appear in Van Wert Municipal Court on the charge.

 
Suspect faces theft charges PDF Print

At 11:22 a.m. on Tuesday, Delphos Police were called to the 900 block of South Main Street in reference to a theft complaint.
Upon officers’ arrival, the victim stated that items were sold to a business in that area and upon looking at the items, it was discovered that they were stolen.
Officers were able to identify one subject involved and charges are pending on that subject for receiving stolen property.

Tuesday sentencings
Jesse Stemen, 24, Van Wert, possession of drugs, felony 5, was sentenced to 3 years community control, 60 days Electronic Monitored House Arrest, additional 30 days jail, substance abuse assessment and treatment, 2 years intensive probation, Driver’s License suspended 6 months, ordered to pay court cost and partial appointed counsel fees.
A nine-month prison term was deferred pending completion of Community Control.

Zach Craig, 33, Van Wert, domestic violence, Felony 4, was sentenced to 3 year community control, 180 days jail, ordered to continue Westwood counseling and his medications, additional 30 days jail.
An 18-month prison term deferred pending completion of Community Control.

Wednesday

Probation violation
Zach Young, 26, Van Wert, appeared on a probation violation for moving without permission and for failing to report to probation. He admitted the violations and had his previously suspended sentence imposed: 180 days jail and $1,000 fine. He received credit for 132 days served and was also ordered to pay court costs.

Changes of pleas

Megan Fischbach, 22, Delphos, changed her plea to guilty to attempted unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, a misdemeanor of the first degree. She was originally charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, a felony of the fifth degree.
The court ordered a pre-sentence investigation and set sentencing for May 8.

Rodney Pulfer, 31, Convoy, entered a plea of no contest and was found guilty of possession of drugs, a felony of the fifth degree.
