LIMA — Allen County Health Commissioner Kathy Luhn has announced her retirement from Allen County Public Health.

The Board of Health has begun a search for a new Health Commissioner, with the goal of having someone prepared to take over leadership of Allen County Public Health upon Ms. Luhn’s retirement, effective Sept. 30.

Luhn began her public health career at the Allen County Health Department in August of 1988. Her first position was as a nutritionist in the WIC (Women, Infant and Children’s nutrition program), and eventually was named Program Director for Allen County WIC. After serving as Director of Health Education for many years, Kathy became Health Commissioner in March 2012. Previously, David Rosebrock held the commissioner post for 40 years. For the past 50 years, Allen County has had just two health commissioners.

The Board of Health will be conducting a state-wide search, and the posting for the position is available now at allencountypublichealth.org.
