VAN WERT – At 12:21 p.m. on Friday, the Van Wert Police Department received a call of a robbery that occurred at 1244 S. Shannon St. at Laudick’s Jewelry.

The suspect, Karl Allan Kehler Jr., (504 Columbia Dr. Lima, Ohio 45805) entered Laudick’s Jewelry and left with a diamond.

After fleeing from Laudick’s, Kehler departed left going northbound on South Shannon Steet. A Van Wert Police Department unit located the vehicle traveling north on North Jefferson Street. Kehler failed to stop for the officer’s lights and sirens.

A citizen informed VWPD that Kehler’s vehicle, which entered US 30 going east, turned off on the Lincoln Highway exit, and re-entered US 30 westbound.

Kehler’s vehicle was located and stopped by the Ohio State Highway Patrol on U.S. 30 close to Highway 49. The Van Wert County Sheriff’s Office was also on scene.

The diamond in question was located in the vehicle. The suspect complained of having severe withdrawal symptoms from his addiction to narcotics. He was then transported by EMS to Van Wert Health to be medically cleared to go to jail.

Kehler was transported to the Van Wert County correctional facility and charged with Felony 3 Robbery.

More charges will be sought at the next grand Jury once Prosecutor Eva Yarger reviews the case.

According to a Facebook post made by Laudick’s Jewelry, those at the store were okay.
