OTTOVILLE — The Monday night heat brought out sweat for both teams in a clean cut game. The Big Green grabbed a 1-0 win over Van Wert.

Ottoville’s Kyle Manns scored the only goal of the night as a result of a penalty committed by the Cougars about 10-minutes into the first half.

The single-goal game was a little different from the Big Green’s last matchup against Linclonview where they they lost 7-0. Sweat dripping and hearts pumping the Cougars came in strong and with a great defense.

“Our boys put up a good fight,” said Van Wert assistant coach Gabe Steyerthey. “We had great defense but could use some work at the midfield and forward positions.”

Steyerthey also added that despite not having any goals for the night, he is very optomistic and feels it will be a great year.

The second half kicked off with great defense from both sides of the field. The Cougars tried their best to get the ball down the field for a chance at a goal but Ottoville was able to hold them off.

The Big Green ended the game with nine shots on goal compared to two by Van Wert.

“The main goal was to come in strong but we lost confidence very quickly into the first half,” said Ottoville head coach Dustin Markward. “Despite the conditions and heat, our guys gave it their best shot.We need to work on better passing judgments and getting the ball past that goalie.”

The Big Green stand at 2-0 on the season and will host Allen East Thursday.
