VAN WERT — On Aug. 9, the Van Wert Veterans Service Office sponsored five women veterans to the Ohio Woman Veteran’s Conference in Columbus.

Attending were Christine Gemmer, Army; Ashley Showalter, Army; Leslie Moser, Marine Corp; Dawn Kennedy, Navy; and Lori Boyd, Air Force.

The conference was an opportunity for women veterans from across the state to gather for education, support and comradeship. Ohio is home to 67,000 women veterans and the conference attracted approximately 1,000 from throughout Ohio and surrounding states.

This year’s day-long conference featured 25 guest speakers and 12 breakout sessions; more than 75 exhibitors, vendors and participants; an area that focused on mental, physical, spiritual and emotional care; a job and career-readiness fair; and a woman veterans art exhibit.

During Friday’s optional pre-conference activities, attendees got to visit some of Columbus’s hallmark visitor destinations.

Lee Kinstle’s donated a van for transportation.
