VAN WERT – The Lima man accused of attempted murder and other crimes at a home just west of Delphos on March 10 has pleaded guilty to aggravated burglary, a felony 1; and felonious assault with firearm specification, a felony 2.

Stephen Spieldenner, 50, of Lima, appeared in Van Wert County Common Pleas Court on Thursday. The charge of attempted murder with firearm specification was dropped for his plea.

The charges stem from an incident on Thursday, March 5, in Washington Township. According to the Van Wert County Sheriff’s Office, a male subject known to the resident, armed with a firearm, attacked a resident in their home in Washington Township. The resident was able to fight off the male subject, but not before the attacker fired the gun. The resident suffered minor injuries in the attack but did not suffer any gunshot wounds.

Spieldenner fled the residence before deputies arrived.

The court ordered a pre-sentence investigation and set sentencing for July 16. Bond was continued.
