DELPHOS — The Delphos Police Department was contacted Tuesday by St.Rita's Medical Center requesting detectives respond to the emergency room for an injured child.

When detectives arrived, they learned a 2-month-old child had been lifeflighted to Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus with life-threatening injuries.

Detectives spoke with the child's mother and grandparents at the hospital and learned the child's injuries most likely happened while in the custody of the biological father, who was in custody at the Allen County Jail on on unrelated charge.

The detectives and representatives from the Allen County Sheriff's Office interviewed the father and he did admit to causing the injuries to the child at his residence. A search warrant was served on the residence this morning.

The name of the suspect is not being released pending the filing of formal charges.
