DELPHOS — A Delphos man appeared for his initial hearing in Lima Municipal Court on a charge of theft of a firearm, a felony of the third degree Friday afternoon. Joseph J. Baughn, 38, was arrested on Wednesday by officers from the Delphos Police Department.

Investigators with the Delphos Police Department believe that Baughn is responsible for the break-in at the Delphos Ace Hardware reported on Aug. 15. A .38 caliber handgun and cash had been stolen in the crime along with other merchandise.

The handgun found in Baughn’s possession at the time of his arrest has been confirmed to be the stolen handgun. The vast majority of the stolen property has been recovered by the department.

Baughn is being held in Allen County Jail on a $50,000 cash bond with 10 percent to apply. He will have a preliminary hearing next Sept. 2 at 9:30 a.m. in Lima Municipal Court.

The case will ultimately be heard at a later time by the next session of the Allen County Grand Jury to hear the details of this case. More criminal charges will be considered at that time.

No more information is available as the investigation continues.
