The Allen County Sheriff's Office has identified the Spencerville man operating the stolen semi tractor on Tuesday that led law enforcement on a high-speed chase throughout Allen and Van Wert counties and was ultimately shot to death by the Allen County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team. 

Terry Pierce Jr. 46, was driving a GLM transport semi tractor that had beeb reported stolen when at approximately 8:11 a.m. on Tuesday a Spencerville Police Department patrol unit attempted to stop him as je was leaving the village due to a reported criminal complaint involving the operator. According the sheriff's office, Pierce refused to stop and a pursuit was initiated.

Multiple agencies, including the Allen County Sheriff’s Office, the Ohio State Highway Patrol and the Van Wert County Sheriff’s Office, joined the pursuit in an effort to aid the Spencerville Police officer.

Pierce fled throughout Allen County and eventually entered U.S. 30 westbound near Delphos. During the course of the pursuit, multiple attempts were made to stop Pierce via negotiators over the phone, stop sticks, shooting remaining tires and vehicle maneuvers. Pierce refused all orders to stop and made multiple and repeated threats to kill people.

Delphos Police were dispatched to monitor the two U.S. 30 interchanges just outside of the city.

While fleeing on U.S. 30 westbound, Pierce drove into the eastbound lanes of travel and continued to travel west against oncoming traffic. At that time, pursuing officers determined the operator and semi were an imminent threat to the safety of citizens and made the determination to neutralize the threat by firing on Pierce. The semi cab eventually came to a complete stop in the eastbound lanes of travel at approximately 10:04 a.m. near the intersection of U.S. 30 and Feasby Wisener Road in Van Wert County.

SWAT officers were the only one to fire on Pierce.

The investigation is being handled by the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office, Van Wert County Sheriff’s Office, and the Ohio Attorney General’s Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigations.
