VAN WERT – Van Wert County Sheriff Thomas M. Riggenbach announced that his office is investigating an aircraft crash.

At 5:33 p.m. Wednesday, the sheriff’s office was notified of a plane crash in the area of 8503 Richey Road. When deputies arrived it was determined that an Ultralight aircraft had crashed in a bean field located on the southeast corner of Lincoln Highway and Richey Road.

The aircraft was a 1997 Phantom X1 being flown by Joshua J. Huber, age 32, of Convoy. Huber was not injured in the crash. Sheriff Riggenbach stated the investigation is continuing and FAA has been contacted as part of the investigation.
