DELPHOS – The Delphian Social Club held their second annual 3-on-3 basketball tournament on Saturday as several hundred kids, adults, and coaches descended on Stadium Park.

The heat was brutal but that didn’t stop competitors from taking part in the tournament. Schrader Realty provided Gatorade and water to the players, also a five-minute break at the halfway point of each game was implemented to prevent any heat related injuries. Despite the heat, everyone involved had fun.

The teams were separated into six groups; grade school boys and girls, middle school boys and girls, high school boys and girls and adults.

DJ Terence provided music and entertainment while The Delphos Canal Commission sold snacks and sandwiches outside the tennis courts. Many showed up just to watch the games and socialize with one another while others huddled around the tournament brackets to see what team they played next.

Several volunteers and sponsors came together to make the event a success including students from St. John’s and Jefferson. Several basketball coaches from the area helped referee the games and support their players in the tournament, and that gave a real sense of community involvement in the project.

The event that began last year is the club’s latest effort to raise money for improvements to the lot on the corner of Main and Fourth streets in Delphos. The goal is to build an amphitheater, and events like the 3-on-3 will help make that dream a reality.
