DELPHOS - After a two year hiatus, the Nathan Miller Memorial Baseball Tournament opened under sunny skies at Delphos Stadium Park. This year marks the 12th year that the tournament has been planned and the atmosphere was worth the extended wait.

During opening ceremonies Friday evening, the 2020 scholarship winners were recognized since they didn’t get the honor last season due to COVID. Adam Bockey and Noah Heiing were the scholarship winners from Delphos St. John along with Ashton Moore and Jarrod Radabaugh of Delphos Jefferson. The 2021 Delphos Jefferson recipients included Logan Gallmeier and Joshua Wiseman. Trent Lindeman was the lone winner for the Blue Jays with a donation being made to a student at St. Johns school due to lack of scholarship applications.

This year marks the 11th year of scholarship winners with over $42,000 being awarded from proceeds of the annual tournament.

It was also a perfect night on the field as both Delphos Little League teams were victorious.

The Delphos 11-year-olds squad defeated Shawnee in a nail bitter 8-7. In the other opening night game, the hometown 12-year-olds were victorious by a margin of 10-6 over Miller City.

Other action included Waynesfield taking on Ayersville along with Coldwater battling Van Wert.

The night of action wrapped up under the lights with local teams Ottoville taking on Elida and Defiance taking the field against St. Marys.

A full slate of 18 games filed all four fields at Stadium Park all day Saturday.

The championship rounds will be played on Sunday with the title match beginning late afternoon.
