FORT JENNINGS — Ottoville senior Carson Stoner scored the only goal of the first half as his team defeated Fort Jennings 2-0 Tuesday night. The win made the Big Green outright champions of the PCL.

It was a physical game through-and-through with defense playing a key role in the matchup between the Putnam County League rivals. The first shot on goal didn’t come until 4:13 into the game. Joe Miller fired one at Musketeer goalkeeper Jon Grote. He had five saves on the day.

Fort Jennings fired right back with a shot that sailed left of the mark as the game remained scoreless midway through the first half.

Stoner broke the ice at the 31:59 mark of the opening half with a goal off his left foot and in the back of the net. His blast gave the Ottoville a 1-0 lead and the momentum.

The Musketeers tried to battle back with shots by Ian Ricker and Derek Luersman but was rejected by Hoersten. Aaron Kloeppel had an opportunity near the end of the half but sent the ball well over the net and left the score at 1-0 Big Green.

It took 32:36 into the second half for Ottoville to score again. The strong defensive play by both teams held shots to a minimum but Nolan German found the net with the assist coming from Dalton Davis. His kick extended the Greens lead to 2-0 and gave them some breathing room as the game drew to a close.

“Today was more about how we would respond after the big win the other night,” said Ottoville head coach Dustin Markward. “With everything we had on the line as far as winning the league, they did whatever they had to do to get the win today. Our defense as a whole has stepped-up. Even our midfield has applied more pressure and got up and down the field, but for right now our defense has done a great job for us over the last few weeks.”

Fort Jennings had two more chances before time expired but Ottoville goalkeeper Kaiden Trentman did a great job at holding the Musketeers scoreless. He had seven saves in the game and was key to the Big Green’s victory.

Ottoville improves to 9-2-3 (3-0 PCL) while Fort Jennings slips to 2-11-2 (0-4 PCL).
