Delphos Senior Citizens heard two speakers during the monthly Good to Know Lunch and Go program in June. Jill Wenzlick, a physical therapist from Mercy Health, provided information on coping with arthritis. She educated the seniors about the different types of arthritis and the medical professionals who can diagnose and treat arthritis, emphasizing the importance of regular exercise. DSC Board Treasurer Karen Hartman presented “Show ‘em Your Polish,” a humorous reminder about manners and public presentation. (Photo submitted)

DELPHOS — Here’s what’s happening at Delphos Senior Citizens during July.

The Red, White and Blue Celebration will be held on Friday, July 29, here at the Center in the garage to the east of the building. Lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m. and includes a brat on a bun, with optional sauerkraut, cole slaw, Sun Chips, watermelon and a can of pop or bottle of water. Following lunch, at 12:30 p.m., we will enjoy a live animal presentation from the Johnny Appleseed Metropolitan Park District. At 1:30 p.m., an ice cream dessert will be served and door prizes will be awarded. Tickets are $5 and must be purchased by July 21. If you attended Senior Citizen Day and have a $5 coupon, you may use it to cover the cost of your ticket.

Beginning in July, Kandee Shook from HCF Management (Roselawn) will come to the center on a Friday at 11 a.m. to lead our Friday Funday group in a craft. She will be here on Friday, July 8. Call the Center at 419-692-1331 by July 1 to sign up for the craft so Shook knows how many seniors to expect. We’re so grateful Kandee is willing to come to our Center and serve you in this way.

The Good to Know, Lunch & Go program will be held on July 20. Elysia Bush from Crime Victim Services will be our guest speaker and will discuss elder abuse. Enjoy lunch and hear a very important message. Call 419-692-1331 by 5 p.m. on Thursday, July 14, to register.

A BIG thank you goes out to Jing Fong Restaurant here in town. They provided our Good to Know meal in June at no charge to the center! They love our seniors. Thank you!

Do you know a single fall can have serious consequences and place you at greater risk for future falls? Delphos Senior Citizens will be offering the Matter of Balance course in August. The class is open to anyone who has not yet attended a Matter of Balance class. If the class does not fill up, the openings will be offered to those who would like a refresher. Classes begin Aug. 9 and will meet from 9-11 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays for four weeks. Deadline to register is July 22.

Special Bingo: July 5 – Delphos Hearing Aid Center, July 13 – Meadows of Delphos, July 27 – Community Health Professionals, July 28 - Vancrest.

Community Health Professionals offer a monthly Foot Care Clinic on the second Tuesday of every month (July 12) beginning at 1 p.m. They will trim toenails for $20. To attend, call 419-692-1331 to be put on their list. When you call, please let us know if you need transportation.

Have you tried exercise here at the Center yet? During July and August, we will have it every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 10 am. Mondays are led by an instructor, Cathy Heitmeyer. Wednesdays are cardio-drumming, while Fridays are exercise to videos. Get moving and you will feel better!

The euchre group is still trying to round up enough players to keep the action going every Friday afternoon. If you’re interested in playing, come to the Center on Fridays at 1 p.m.

The center will be closed on Monday, July 4, for Independence Day.
