VAN WERT – Valarie Dean, 25, Delphos, was sentenced to eight years in prison for involuntary manslaughter, a felony of the first degree; and 30 months to be served concurrently for endangering children, a felony of the third degree, on Wednesday in Common Pleas Court.

Dean, mother of deceased 15-month old Hayden Ivan Ridinger, was charged with the felonies after Ridinger was found dead in November 2016. She found her son after noon on Nov. 15, 2016, unresponsive at an apartment at the Old Lincoln Inn on the west edge of Delphos. Dean told officers that when she got home from work that morning, she believed her son, who had been sick, was sleeping and she went to bed.

Ridinger suffered from broken ribs which resulted in suffocation as his lungs were unable to fill with air. The infant also had a high level of Diphenhydramine in his system, from a high amount of Benadryl.

Dean’s former boyfriend, Christopher Peters, 27, was found guilty of aggravated murder, felonious assault and child endangering in October in connection with Ridinger’s death and was sentenced to life in prison.

Dean had changed her pleas to guilt in November.

She received credit for 6 days already served and was ordered to pay court costs.
