DELPHOS — The Allen and Van Wert Republican Party committees have tapped lifelong Delphos resident Joe Dray to fill the unexpired seat of former Councilman-At-Large Joe Martz.

Allen County executive chair Keith Cheney made the announcement Thursday evening..

“We knew Joe was interested in the position because he applied for the seat we filled last year,” Cheney said. “He will support Mayor Josh Gillespie and help the city move forward.”

Gregory Etgen also applied for the position. Another applicant was deemed ineligible.

Dray is a 1999 graduate of St. John’s High School and attended Rhodes State College, majoring in Business Management and English. He joined the US Navy in 2000 and served in the Mediterranean and Adriatic Sea.

“I want to serve on city council because of my love for the Delphos community,” Dray said. “I look forward to working with Mayor Josh Gillespie and members of council on the many issues that our city will need to deal with in the coming months.”

Dray cited the upcoming budget and ongoing infrastructure improvements as pressing issues.

“I am grateful Mayor Gillespie will be taking the time to get me up to speed quickly,” Dray added. “When we work together it moves the city forward in a positive direction and I am excited to be a part of that.”

Dray’s name will appear on the May Primary Ballot for the Republican nod for the seat.
