DELPHOS — Ground has been broken for the poolhouse project spearheaded by the Delphos Kiwanis and Delphos Stadium clubs.

The old ticket booth has been relocated to the football stadium and old concrete is being removed to make way for the construction of the new poolhouse.

“The weather has cooperated and we’re hoping to get the footers in soon,” Kiwanian Cindy Metzger said. “We’re just going to keep going, Mother Nature willing.

The new 2,888-square-foot poolhouse will house new restrooms and shower facilities for men and women and a new concession stand with access to the concessions from the pool and playground. The building will also contain new office space as well as an improved lifeguard station. The structure will be fully handicap accessible.

The $300,000 project was made possible by donations from local and area business, organizations and individuals and more than $150,000 in grants from the Dienstberger Foundation.

The clubs hope to have the poolhouse constructed and ready to go for the 2019 pool season.

The original existing shower and restroom facility was built as part of the WPA (Works Progress Administration) project in 1941 and has not been updated or renovated since that time.

Fundraising efforts are ongoing. Contributors to the project will be recognized on a permanent sign at the poolhouse. Persons interested in contributing to the project can send donations to either the Delphos Kiwanis Club, Pool House Project, PO Box 173, Delphos, OH 45833; or Delphos Stadium Club, Pool House Project, PO Box 250, Delphos, OH 45833. Donations can also be dropped off to Cindy Metzger at First Federal Bank in Delphos.

The Kiwanis Club of Delphos and Delphos Stadium Club are 501(c)3 organizations.
