MITCHELL, South Dakota — Kalyeigh Rode missed the Canal Days Kiddie Tractor Pull for the time this year. While her peers were pulling on Main Street, Rode, 5, was pulling at the National Pedal Pull Championships at the Corn Palace in Mitchell, South Dakota, taking first place in her age division.

Rode has enjoyed participating in kiddie tractor pulls all over the area, including Fort Jennings and Ottoville parish festivals, Delphos Canal Days and more. She has racked up 17 trophies so far this year.

Her favorite award so far is the green die-cast tractor she won last year at the Canal Days Kiddie Tractor Pull when she placed first in her division. She was a bit disappointed to learn red ones were given out this year.

“I hope they have red ones again next year,” the Franklin kindergartner said.

The five-year-old loves spending time on her family’s farm, hanging out with the cows, pigs and chickens and especially, her dog, Chippy Bob. She also enjoys riding her dad’s big tractor, playing with Barbies and hanging out with her friends.

She has a younger sister, Olivia, and a younger brother, Rhett.

Rode is the daughter of Samantha and Kyle Rode and the granddaughter of Dan and Sue Rode, Mike Hanthorn and Barb Krueckeberg.
