I’m watching the days go by as Thanksgiving comes ever closer.
If everyone invited shows up, I will have 12 people ready to eat that
afternoon. Shees! I’m nervous already.
What I’m most looking
forward to is seeing everyone. Lotus, her roommate, Em, and Jay’s sister
are expected Thanksgiving Day. They may even convince my brother-in-law
to make the trip.
Lotus, Em and Dawn came last year and it was so much fun! A house full of giggling women!
I
can’t wait to catch up with Lotus and find how college is going. She
been interning on a cancer research team. My niece may find a cure for
cancer!
She’s my little Buckeye. A junior already. How time flies.
The
men will be relegated to the living room on TV trays. I have a feeling
they won’t mind too much. After all, it’s a big football day. The women
will stay in the kitchen cozily arranged around the table.
The
turkey will be fresh this year. I hope it’s not so big the wings touch
the sides of the oven. Been there, done that. It didn’t turn out so well
and at least one smoke detector had to be unplugged until the oven was
turned off for the day.
Pies line another shelf in the freezer and
I’m throwing in my chocolate mud cake. We have quite a variety so if
they don’t find something to satisfy their sweet tooth after the meal, I
got nothin’.
My main goal, as always, is getting everything done
at the same time. I don’t know about anyone else but I find this
challenging. It’s not too hard when it’s just Jay and I but add another
10 or so people and some of my methods go out the window.
There’s
the rotating dishes for the oven once the turkey comes out to rest and
then the potatoes have to be mashed at just the right time so they stay
warm and people bringing dishes that still need finished in the oven
will have to take a number. Somehow it will all work out.
Don’t
even get me started on the other preparations. As many of you may have
gleaned from other columns, I’m not a huge fan of cleaning so there are a
few spots in my home that really need some attention. The usual
sweeping and dusting will only get me so far and a few bigger projects
are at the top of my list.
I’d also like to get the bathroom
painted in the next couple of days. I’ve had the paint for some time but
something always comes up to throw a wrench in the plans or I just
plain forget.
I wish my friend Linda had left her “roundtoit” here at work. I could slip it in my pocket and get this stuff accomplished.
Once
the meal is over we’ll get down to what I feel is the important stuff.
We have a collection of games, some new, to bring out once everyone gets
their fill at the table. You can learn a lot about a person when you
lay down the UNO card that makes them draw four.
