HESPERIA, California — Loren Basil Barnes, 88, of Hesperia, California, passed away on Jan. 24, 2017, at Foremost Retirement Home in Hesperia.

He was born Feb. 9, 1928, in Delphos to Jay and Octavio Barnes, who preceded him in death.

He is survived by three daughters, Pam Watkins, Annette Trouten and Cynthia Williamson; one son, Jeffrey Barnes; one brother, Ron Hile; four grandchildren, Ashley and Brent Trouten, Lindsay Schmidt and Chad Watkins; and five great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by a brother, Marvin Barnes; sister, Maxine Bradford; and a son, David Chapman.

Loren had worked as a groundskeeper at The Retreat at Foxhollow in Lakewood, Colorado, well into his early 80s. He was a graduate of Delphos Jefferson High School and was a member of the United Methodist Church in Pemberville. He was also a Boy Scout Leader in Toledo and a member of Toastmasters and a graduate of the Dale Carnegie course. Loren loved anything outdoors where he could take in the fresh air and sunshine and he enjoyed downhill skiing and whitewater rafting.

A graveside service will begin at 2 p.m. on Thursday at Walnut Grove Cemetery.
