COLUMBUS — Margene M. Freund, 89, formerly of Delphos, died at 2 p.m. on Dec. 24 at Worthington Christian Village in Columbus.

Margene was born Dec. 4, 1929, in Columbus Grove to Agnes and William Van Demark, who preceded her in death.

Margene is survived by her children Jane Clevenger of Delphos, Timothy (Joyce) Freund of Columbus, Elaine (Fred) Twigg of Rockford, Christine (Rob) Fischer of Malvern and Amy (Larry) Miller of Delphos; a sister, Betty (Dean) Imber of Columbus; a brother, James Van Demark of Mesa, Arizona; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Margene was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer “Bud” Freund; and son-in-law Bruce Clevenger.

Margene loved working on the farm where she baled hay, fed the calves and gardened. Her vegetable garden fed the family for many years. Margene worked hard on behalf of Habitat for Humanity in Delphos as well as volunteering often at the Delphos Thrift Shop. Margene made two trips to Mississippi to clean up after Hurricane Katrina.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 12, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, the Rev Steve Nelson officiating. Margene donated her body to the Ohio State University body donation program. Visitors are welcome at 10 a.m. to talk with family.

After the memorial service, you are invited to join the family at the Delphos Microtel Inn, 480 Moxie Lane for a pop and ham sandwich.
