FORT JENNINGS — The Fort Jennings Musketeers welcomed the Arlington Red Devils to the Fort at for the tip off of boys basketball action Friday night. Arlington picked up the 59-41 victory over Fort Jennings.

With the game tied at 6-6 in the first quarter, the Red Devils scored the next seven points, including a three-pointer from Jaret Vermillion.

The Musketeers used a timeout with 59.5 seconds left in the first quarter as Arlington had a 13-6 lead. Fort Jennings hit a triple from Nick Trentman to end the first quarter, 13-9.

In the second quarter, Arlington got back-to-back treys from Vermillion to increase their lead to 21-11.

The Musketeers only had three buckets in the second quarter with the final one being a three-pointer from Ian Ricker to cut the Red Devil lead to 26-16.

Arlington got the last two baskets of the first half as hoops from Jacob Russell and Ivan Berry gave the Red Devils a 30-16 advantage at half.

Eight first-half turnovers really put Fort Jennings in a big hole against the Red Devils.

Berry scored the first seven points of the third quarter for Arlington as the Red Devils increase their advantage to 37-20. After Arlington went up 45-21 in the third quarter, Fort Jennings scored the final four points of the quarter.

Two points from Derek Luersman and Evan Hoersten brought the score to 45-25 after three.

In the fourth quarter, a bucket from Hoersten and a triple from Simon Smith cut Arlington’s lead to 52-34.

The Musketeers ended the game with a three-pointer from Zach Schulte to bring the final score to 59-41, Arlington.

“We just have to do a better job of taking care of the basketball. Our decision-making needs to be better and we just need more communication with in the offense. We get very stagnate at times and when that movement slows up, its hard to make good decisions,” Fort Jennings basketball coach Ryan Schroeder said. “We need to do a better job of covering the post and we didn’t handle some of our responsibility with our post defense. So we need to touch on those things.”

The Musketeers welcome the Ada Bulldogs to Fort Jennings High School on Saturday night.
