DELPHOS —While many events have been canceled, two local non-profits have come up with offerings the community can enjoy while maintaining social distancing.

The Delphos Canal Commission will again sponsor cruising in downtown Delphos from 7-9 p.m. on July 11.

“This is our summer fundraiser, so once again, licenses are $10 to ride around and show off your wheels,” Trustee Bob Ebbeskotte said. “We are re-opening the museum at 1-3 p.m. also. Please join us and help support your museum.”

The cruises have been very well received in years past.

“This is our third year of bringing people to downtown Delphos to have some fun and raise some funds for the museum and it’s been a great time every year,” Ebbeskotte said. “People seem to enjoy showing off their cars, reliving their youth and just getting out of the house right now. It’s just a good time with plenty of social distancing. Come on out and join us.”

The license tables will be in front of the museum at 241 N. Main St.

The Delphian Social Club, along with Lakeview Farms, will offer a free movie experience downtown beginning at dusk (around 9:15-9:30 p.m.) on July 11.

“We understand kids and adults have been cooped up with everything being closed the past couple of months. We wanted to give them a chance to get outside and safely enjoy a summer event,” Delphian TJ Schimmoeller said. “We will follow the social distancing guidelines, household family members can be in groups up to 10. Everyone needs to keep six feet of distance between non-household family members. We will have a couple of hand sanitation stations there to help keep a clean environment.”

Participants are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs or blankets for seating. Golf carts will be allowed to park on the concrete pad if space allows in the back only. The Delphians do ask that everyone stay off the grass.

“We are hoping people come out for the cruise in and stay after for a free popular animated kids movie night downtown,” he said. “People are welcome to bring their own food and nonalcoholic drinks. Pizza Hut will offer specials on food during the event at their location across the alley. We hope to see everybody there.”
