LIMA — St. John’s junior Chase Martin continues to cut through the competition in the 2019-20 season and picked up another first place finish at the Spartan Invitational at Lima Senior on Saturday. The 170-pounder defeated Deontae Davis of Cory-Rawson in a 10-8 decision in the championship match.

Mason Vonderwell took second in the 152-pound division after being pinned in the final round by Jake Hurst of Mechanicsburg. Mark Wrasman took home third place in the 160-pound weight class, pinning Ben McKee of Jefferson in 2:13.

Other notable Blue Jays are Clay Paddubny, who took fifth in the 182-pound class and Nathan Ditto grabbed 7th in the 132-pound division.

“It was nice to have our freshmen back from injury and get some quality matches,” said St. John’s head coach Brent Gable.

The Blue Jays ended their day in 8th place as a team.

Jefferson placed 9th and was led by Kane Plescher. He finished third in the 195-pound weight class after defeating Riley Coil of Paulding with a pin in under a minute.

Sophomore Bruce Hutchison took home 6th place in the 170-pound division after being pinned by Howie Perkins of Shawnee. Johnathon Brooks grabbed 6th position in the 126-pound weight class and Cody Redmon placed 7th in the 138-pound division.

The Wildcats finished the tournament in 9th place.

Spencerville had an outstanding performance on Saturday, placing 5th overall. Brandon Dues won the 220-pound weight class with a 13-9 decision over Brock Lyons of Elida. Darius Clark took second in the 285-pound division after falling to Carter Butler of Bath in a :13 pin.Reuben Noriega earned 4th place in the 220-pound weight class and Garrett Jones had a 5th place finish. Senior Jay Goetz took home 5th in the 132-pound division and Nyah Hodge-Miller grabbed 6th in the 106-pound weight class.
