COLDWATER -- The Delphos St. John’s and Parkway cross country teams returned to Coldwater Saturday to wrap up a chaotic 2020 regular season at the Midwest Athletic Conference Championships.

Parkway’s Blake Strickler was runner-up in the boy’s high school race with a blistering pace of 16:59. Minster’s Alex Albers won the MAC individual title in 16:24 as the Wildcats took 7 of the top 11 finishers to also win the team title. Parkway sophomore Colby Bentz (19:03, 31st), Riley Samples (19:26, 40th), and Cade Schoenienben (19:50, 54th) all broke the 20 minute barrier for Coach Ann Vian. Rounding out the Panther boys was Tyler Rowen (20:48), Carter Hellwarth (21:24), Bryce Stearns (24:16), Blayne Fullenkamp (25:30), and Derek Smith (25:52).

The Minster boys easily won the MAC team title with only 21 points to runaway from Versailles (78), Marion Local (105), and New Bremen (118). Parkway finished 5th in the 9 team field followed by St. Johns, Ft. Recovery, Coldwater, and St. Henry.

The Delphos St. John’s boys placed a pair of sophomores in the top 20 lead by Marcus Freewalt (9th, 17:49) and Drew Palte (19th, 18:29). A trio of freshman had strong showings for the Blue Jays as Andrew Bockey (58th, 19:56), Aaron Bockey (59th, 20:00) and Logan Tolliver (72nd, 20:58) wrapped up their first high school regular season. St. John’s junior Zane Stevenson continued his season long reduction of times to cross the finish line at Cavalier Stadium in 22:03.

The cross country running factory known as the Minster girls program won the MAC team title with the identical score as their male team mates with 21 points. The battle for second place was tight as Ft. Recovery (78) edged Versailles (80) by 2 points. New Bremen (122) placed fourth, followed by St. Henry (126), St. Johns (133), Coldwater, Parkway, Marion Local and New Knoxville.

The Minster ladies also matched the Wildcat boys by grabbing 7 of the top 11 spots to earn the team title. Senior Ella Boate took the girls race for Minster in 18:44 to comfortably keep away from freshman newcomer Ellie Will (19:29) from Ft. Recovery.

Delphos St. John’s freshman Ava Milligan was the top finisher for the Lady Jays with a personal best time of 20:35 to finish 12th. Milligan’s speedy time also moved her up to 10th place on the all-time fastest female runners in school history. Fellow freshman Elayna Will rounded the still colorful Coldwater Memorial Park in 21:17 to place 24th. St. John’s seniors Rylee Pohlman (26th, 21:20) and Kambrynn Rohr (33rd, 21:29) completed their final regular season run for the Blue Jays with leaving nothing behind efforts. Freshman Alex Kessen survived a fall on the track to comeback and cross the line in 22:13 and Kitty Kopack had her best showing of the year improving to 22:24. The final freshman for the Lady Jays included Aubrey Milligan (22:32) and Ella Wilson (27:01).

Parkway freshman Lexie Berry finished her very successful first season placing 29th in the fast field of 125 runners with a time of 21:26. Katie Trisel (51st, 22:40), Morgan Hunter (64th, 23:18), Sydney Waters (24:28), Leah Eichler (25:55), Emily Jackson (26:06), and Beth Short (26:47), Lexie Cottman (27:05), Audrey Ford (27:06) and Raegan Roehm (28:15) rounded out the Parkway girl’s squad.

Marcus Freewalt and Ava Milligan from St. John’s along with Parkway’s Blake Strickler were named to the Midwest Athletic All-Conference team for their efforts after the races finished.

The Minster junior high girls also won the MAC team title with Versailles second followed by St. John’s, Ft. Recovery and Marion Local. Top runners for the junior Lady Jays included Brezlynn Rohr (8th), Alena Fuerst (22nd), Mary Claire Kopack (23rd), Aubrey Metzger (24th), Olivia Bockey (28th), Cady Donaldson (29th), and Tori Swick (36th).

Parkway 8th grader Amanda Barrett placed 4th in the junior high race as the younger runners for the Lady Panthers continue to show future success for the cross country program.

The Versailles junior high boys prevented Minster from sweeping all four team titles by winning the MAC title with 59 points and Minster(72) was second. The Parkway was third and St. Johns 4th in the team standings.

The Parkway junior high boys placed four runners in the top 20 to pace their 3rd place finish. Xavier Samples finished third overall along with Nathaniel Stolly (11th), Eli Schumm (12th), and Zach Rogers (17th).

The Blue Jay junior high put a trio in the top 20 to fuel their 4th place showing lead by Brayden Pohlman (5th), Hank Kopacck (9th), and Isiah Freewalt (19th). Andy Walpole (30th), Adrian Crespo (33rd), Eli Swick (49th), and Riley Wenzlick (53rd) finished out the junior high boys.

With the regular season now in the books, the focus turns to the post season beginning with District action all over the state of Ohio. Parkway and St. John’s will head to Columbus Grove to face familiar conference foes Minster, Coldwater, and New Bremen for a shot to move onto Regionals in Tiffin.
