FORT JENNINGS - The Musketeers welcomed Kalida Friday night as the young Fort Jennings team ran into a buzz saw as the Wildcats picked up the 42-21 win.

Progress was slow, especially for a young squad, and while the Musketeers were taking steps in the right direction, they still had long way to go.

Kalida opened the first quarter going five-for-five from the field. Four of those five shots were from beyond the arc. Two three-pointers from Luke Echart and one from Evan Roebke put Kalida up 11-0.

Trevor Lambert went on a 5-0 run to increase the Wildcats lead to 16-0. The Musketeers got their first bucket with under two minutes in the first quarter in the form of a jumper from Derek Luersman.

Early in the second period, Lambert drilled another triple for Kalida to put them up 23-3. The second quarter was basically the Lambert show as he score all 16 points for Kalida.

Fort Jennings ended the first half with a layup from Nick Trentman to bring the score to 34-9.

The third quarter was low scoring quarter for both sides, with a total of six points scored.

Kalida went into the fourth quarter with a 38-11 lead. Fort Jennings started the final period with a foul shot from Simon Smith and a triple from Carson Kazee, 38-15 Musketeers.

Fort Jennings closed out the game with layups from Nick Trentman and Kazee to bring the final score to 42-21, Kalida.

“Our leadership, our growth, our physicality was very evident tonight. We were just out matched and when you are playing against the team that knocks down their first five shots and four of them are three-pointers, it’s tough to recover from that,” said Fort Jennings boys basketball coach Ryan Schroeder.

“The Seniors did a great job of leading setting a really good tone early on the defensive end. That carried over to our offensive end in the first half. Really proud of them if we can continue to play this way we will have a lot of fun this year,” said Kalida boys basketball coach Ryan Stechschulte.

Kalida improves to 7-4 on the year and 2-0 in the PCL. The Wildcats will travel to Tinora High School tonight for a non-conference match up against the Rams. Fort Jennings drops to 2-9 on the year and 0-2 in the PCL. The Musketeers will travel to Bluffton for a non-conference match up.
