DELPHOS — The Jefferson girls volleyball team took a tough 3-1 loss on Thursday after a hard fought battle throughout the game. After knotting things up after the second set, Shawnee won the next two and secured the victory over the Lady Cats.

Jefferson fell 25-16 in the opening set after the Indians poured it on early. The Wildcats dominated set two by jumping out to a 6-2 advantage early. Shawnee went on a 4-1 run before Jefferson went on an 11-5 run to close out the set.

With things tied a one a piece, The Lady Cats looked to take the lead in the third set but came up short. Jefferson had a chance to put them away late with a 24-23 lead but the Indians scored three straight points and secured a 26-24 win in the set.

Shawnee controlled the fourth set with a 25-18 win to seal the game. Karrington Green and 13 kills for Shawnee and Trinity Gearing had 11. The Indians produced 10 aces on the night along with 10 blocks.

“We have a good set of seniors,” said Jefferson head coach Kristi Hageman. “They provide leadership and we have been working hard. They continue to exceed my expectations and if we play like we did tonight, we will beat a lot of teams. We had less mental errors this game compared to last, so we are heading in the right direction.”
