MIDDLE POINT- Coming off a 10-point loss on Saturday afternoon to county rival Van Wert, the Lady Lancers wanted to get off to a good start and play both ends of the floor well and it was their quick start that was needed as home Lancers defeated the Antwerp Archers 45-38 Tuesday.

The Lancers scored the first five points of the opening on back-to-back baskets by Kendall Bollenbacher but the Archers countered-punched with four quick points to get within 5-4 but a pair of free throws by Aewyn McMichael gave the Archers a slim 6-5. Lincolnview started passing the ball inside and found quick points from Carsyn Looser as the lead was extended to 9-4 but it was a huge three-pointer from Annie Renner near the end of the quarter to lead Antwerp 14-9 at the end of the first quarter of play.

Both teams extended their defense out in the second quarter as neither team found success in scoring the basketball. The Lancers switched their defense from a man-to-man to a 2-3 zone as the visitors didn’t find the scoreboard in the quarter till the 4:59 mark in the quarter on a 3-pointer by Hayleigh Jewell. By that point in the contest, Lincolnview extended the lead to nine thanks to baskets by Looser, Sami Sellers and the latest was a basket by Bollenbacher. The home Lancers out-scored the visitors 7-4 the rest of the quarter as both teams broke the zone defenses set by the opposing teams.

The third quarter both teams scored back-and-forth throughout the quarter but the Archers out-scored the Lancers 11-10 in the frame. Lincolnview was able to get their biggest lead in the contest to 15 as Zadria King worked the ball inside for a bucket followed by a free throw from Annie Mendenhall as the lead stood at 33-18 with 7:01 left in the third quarter. King caused the defense to create havoc as she scored two more times in the quarter to lead 37-18 that prompted an Antwerp timeout. The Archers answered with a 9-2 run to end the quarter with the last of the points was on a three pointer by Jewell to cut it to 37-27 but a basket by Mendenhall had the lead at 39-27 as both teams were headed to the final eight minutes of action.

In the final quarter, the home Lancers were limited to six points in the quarter as Lincolnview struggled to hit from the charity strike in the quarter. Both teams traded buckets to begin the quarter but it was few and far between for the Archers as the Lancers made key defensive stops when needed as Lincolnview picked up the home victory 45-38.
